THEME:  Breaking Barriers Together
There are times in our lives when we want to change the way things are. To do what we believe in. To undo every wrong and to set things right.
For a person with disability especially, the wrongs are many. Most of these are man-made barriers. Barriers that stand in the way of leading a fulfilling life.
The barriers may be physical or attitudinal. Physical barriers hinder disabled persons from participating fully in society. Attitudinal barriers are those that translate to bias, stigma or stereotyped thinking.
These barriers exist everywhere. For example, the absence of a ramp for a wheelchair user, or the lack of visual information for a hearing impaired person or audio inputs for a visual impaired person. A headmistress who denies admission to a child with disability, an employer who believes that disabled persons can never really be a part of his/her team, a store owner who does not consider a disabled person as a potential customer. The list is endless and these are widespread in practically all walks of life for persons with disabilities.
Yet... all it takes to overcome these is just the thought and the acting on the thought. Together we can make a difference and break these barriers.  Once these barriers are broken, the hindrances caused by disability become minimal and cease to exist.
Thus “Breaking Barriers Together” is about unleashing your creativity to change the way things are. It’s about challenging stereotypes, changing preconceived notions, overcoming prejudices and creating an equitable society. It’s about bringing in an enlightened thinking. It’s about paving the way for an inclusive society... with people with and without disabilities living life as equals, working together, sharing, caring and doing things together. As people first. As individuals. As self respecting members of society.
“Breaking Barriers Together”.
Come, share your ideas with us on film.
